Goals: To create a site for the sole purpose of saving, organizing and sharing articles socially

Problem: Current site felt outdated and needed a facelift and we wanted to increase engagement and user satisfaction

Solution: To update the overall aesthetic of the site and make it more visually appealing and simplify the link sharing process

Process:

research

It was extremely beneficial to have data collected from the existing site:

We used this data to help identify the gender, age, frequency of use and customer satisfaction of the current users. This information had a tremendous impact on the future design of the site.

Personas

We created personas to further understand the possible needs for the users of our product:

The research findings confirmed a need for an easier way to onboard and use the site. This reinforced our hypothesis that if users found our product pleasant and intuitive, they would be more inclined to use it more often.

  • When it comes to online storage of important documents, they insist on security

  • When it comes to mobile apps, overall, they appreciate products that mimic products they are familiar with

  • They prefer products that are easy to read and interact with

wireframes

Wireframes allowed us to figure out the best site structure and future functionality. Testing users using wireframes was also a low budget, quick way to work out any potential design kinks before going to hi-res prototypes.

UI Design

Instantly, you’ll notice the huge improvement in the look of the homepage and the entire site. The new site is friendly, bright and welcoming. Another major advantage gained with the new design is that it allows potential users a chance to interact with the page before even signing up. This was the number one pain point when we interviewed current users. Giving users the chance to explore the site before signing up greatly increased the chances of someone committing to start an account if they’ve had a pleasant experience.

The other huge pain point we discovered was the inability to easily figure out how to share a link other than copying and pasting it. In the redesign we utilized cards to allow users to easily post on their own page, “like” and article or share the article with the rest of the Moptu community.
